3 Who Changed American Music: A Tribute to Joplin, Parker, and Paul Robeson
Cliff Bellamy, Durham Herald Sun: Since he became director of the Durham Symphony Orchestra, William Henry Curry has committed to performing at least one work by an American composer at each concert. Sunday, the symphony will perform a tribute to three American artists — composers Scott Joplin and Charlie Parker, and singer, actor and political activist Paul Robeson.
By extension, this concert also is a tribute to three men who faced immense obstacles — social and personal — but left groundbreaking achievements in American music and arts. Click here to read more.
