Monday Musicale with the Maestro – April 27, 2020 – Florence Price: “My Soul Been Anch’rd in the Lord.”
The debut last week (archived in the Conductors Corner) introduced you to the Durham Symphony Orchestra’s musical celebration of the Centennial of American Women’s Suffrage. Please enjoy a second selection from the concert.
“The featured composer at this concert was the African-American Florence Price. Her music, after languishing in oblivion for these 60 years after her death, is now receiving national attention.
One of the highlights of this concert was our performance of her arrangement of the spiritual “My Soul Been Anch’rd in the Lord.” Originally written for voice and piano, this performance was the world premiere of my orchestration.
Singing this work was the brilliant young soprano, Jemeesa Yarborough. She was the recipient of the 2019 Durham Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Award, sponsored by Stephen Prystowsky.”
Enjoy & Be well!
